My painting passion is portraiture - human and animal, with an emphasis on character. I adore working with pet photos.
I strive to capture the essence of the spirit in my subjects. It's an intimate process for me.
I start by seeing a spark of life, something I strive to capture as a centerpiece of my work.
I believe that color - like music - can move you, mold your mood and subconsciously excite, soothe and redirect a troubled mind.
My parents taught me that decor should be intentional. Art is an essential element of that expression.
I have a lifetime of experience in the visual and performing arts, but began painting in earnest in 2010. I took to it like a fish to water.
I’ve been taught by some very generous and talented instructors through the years, won a few awards and continue my education in a community of mutually supportive talent which accelerates my painting skills exponentially.
I am grateful to them, one and all.
I paint in oil and acrylic, primarily on canvas in a traditional yet whimsical style. I use no graphic aids or AI at any point in my production.
My preferred starting point for a project is typically a beloved photograph or other image of a favorite pet, person or setting.
I then work with clients to individually customize the creative development into a cherished portrait.
I never rush a project, allowing plenty of time to observe what's working and what doesn't captivate the heart.
I hope you enjoy my gallery below.
"Fearless Reflects"
Acrylic on Canvas 2014
For Lee Hayward
From the spectacular photo by Lee Hayward. The still water and clean reflection was a painting breakthrough for me.
"BubbleBlitz"
Oil on board - July 2024
For Cousin Adele
The pose was irresistible. I used both acrylic and oil paints with multiple layers of semi-gloss glaze on the bubbles.
"Loki Loves"
Oil on canvas 2023
Original photo
This is my Big Lebowski in a playful moment. Ya, that's him.
"Absinthe Dreams"
Acrylic on canvas 2015
Inspired by the Margaret Bannerman Chlorobromide print of Dorothy Wilding, 1925.
"Abundance"
Acrylic on canvas - 2012
Original photo
The goal here was to capture the juicy light on the seeds and the texture of the skin.
"George"
Mixed Media - 2023
For Jessica Hemstreet
An absolute labor of love. I chose to expand and emphasize the the Van Gogh background placing him in a more graphic garden in acrylic with George himself in realism painted in oil. His ears and his gaze were the must-have focus points here.
